Making Tracks/Performing Place
The identity and character of any town comes, to a large extent, from those who live and work there, and is shaped by their daily routines. In this sense a town is a performed place. This project aims to capture the spirit of Colchester by tracking the trajectories of individuals, and groups, as they go about their daily lives. The web of paths they trace in time and space, as they travel across Colchester, will be captured by global positioning system data loggers (GPS). These plots will reveal the shape and form of the community.

About Gordon
Gordon graduated from The Norwich School of Art in 2005 with a first class degree in Fine Art Sculpture. His practice is grounded in the trilectic of space, time and social being, expressed by the geographer Edward Soja. As such the work is closely integrated with its location. Bordering on performance, the animated sculptures and installations are frequently made in the public arena, inviting questions, and placing engagement with the viewer, or audience, at the centre of his way of working.
